Recorded just a year before her death, this live set mostly finds singer Maxine Sullivan still in fine form. She is joined by pianist Gerald Wiggins, bassist Red Callender, drummer Paul Humphrey and tenor saxophonist Herman Riley, a sympathetic group of veteran players. Sullivan includes seven Johnny Mercer lyrics among the dozen selections, mostly avoiding her usual songs. There are times when she seems a little distracted or temporarily off, but in general, this was a good session for the 65-year-old jazz-influenced vocalist. Best are "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby," "Jeepers Creepers" and "Cheatin' On Me." The overall results on this LP-length 1992 CD are not quite essential, but should please Maxine Sullivan fans.
